21 December 2008, Diamond Jubilee Marathon
and Group Discussion
EVENTS OF THE DAY
MARATHON
The CYP assembled at South Gate of Raj Bhavan to participate in the Diamond Jubilee Marathon organized by ICAI. The participants were given ICAI T-shirt and ICAI Cap on first come first serve basis. YP Prashant Dalmiya had also brought CYP caps which were given to existing YPs. The Marathon was a successful one and all the participants enjoyed very much. There were adequate arrangements for refreshments and all the YPs had a good timeout together along with who’s who of the Institute in such an informal platform. The CYP group also gained a lot of popularity among CAs or potential CAs participating in the event.
Now, YP Neha Dhanuka along with YP Rohit Biyani and YP Mohit Jain assembled all the YPs to decide on the topic for GD to follow. YP Rahul Chowdhary suggested to have a group task where a group of 5 YP will propose a business plan and the Co-ordinators of the day will decide the winner being the team who propses the best business plan amongst all. The group had a long discussion about the venue for the GD as our usual venue being Elliot Park was too far for many. Some suggested Victoria Maidan as well but after much pursuance by YP Ashok Kumar Mahawar and YP Rohit Biyani all started for Elliot Park. The Mentors were already present there. There were quiet a number of new faces among the YPs as well as the mentors so we all had a brief Introduction session.
YP Neha Desai briefed the mentors about the Theme of CYP to the mentors. Mr. Amitabh Kothari also joined the mentors and enlightened us with a valuable insight on Global meltdown and the responsibility of we as auditors in the challenging times ahead. Mr. Kamal Nayan Jain shared his experience as an ICASA Chairman, appreciated the whole group and also encouraged us for the initiative. CA Sanjay Agarwal also complimented the forum and then all the mentors took leave.
GROUP DISCUSSION
The enthusiast YPs decided to have a GD on the topic “India’s approach to Pakistan” which was pertinent keeping in mind the recent terror strikes in Mumbai moderated by YP Mohit Jain and YP Prashant Dalmiya. YP Ashok kumar Mahawar introduced the topic to the house by questioning India’s competency to control naxalites, LTTE and other terror groups to compare the situation of Pakistan against LeT and Al-Qaida . The point was well taken by YP Rohit Biyani when he suggested that India as a country should make itself internally strong before pointing our fingers on others. YP Mudit commented on the 3- tier structure of Pakistan comprising Government, Army and ISI which makes it very weak when it comes to decision making. He also pointed out the weakest link being corruption in both countries which needs to be prevented by delegation of Authorities. YP Rahul Agarwal pointed out the weakness of implementation of plans in our country which does not let the policies bear its fruits. Pakistan was blamed for being the breeding ground for terrorists and the effect of international pressure on it. YP Adarsh Nahata suggested to boycott Pakistan trade and commerce which would create a sense of responsibility at their end. YP Bhavna Surana took this point forward and emphasized on the importance of education in any country to tackle this sort of evil. She also put forward the example of scientist and a terrorist using the knowledge and resources in two different ways. YP Prashant Dalmiya emphatically pointed out India’s weakness in making strong statements in answer to Pakistan’s inaction against terrorism or call for war. He also suggested that India should not totally rule out the possibility of war by staying into a brand of “soft country”. YP Rahul Chowdhary opined that war is a very rare possibility as both India and Pakistan are nuclear countries and the nuclear deal of both the countries. YP Mudit again pitched in by showing the darkest side of war being the effect on the families of the soldiers who sacrifice their lives to save us, the civilians. YP Sharad Mundhra informed us about the step taken by Hotel Trident to have boycotted the Pakistani citizens by not providing them hospitality service. The house came to a unanimous opinion that war is not even a distant possibility as the cons are enormous. YP Rahul Chowdhary advised the house that India should target the terrorist camps near the borders of the country. YP Rahul Agarwal was against the ceasefire policy and wanted the army to be a bit aggressive against their stand against Pakistan.
YP Mohit advised the group to conclude keeping the time constraint. The CYP group as a whole was very fulfilled by such an interactive discussion where every YP got an equal chance to speak and contribute and every one of us got a substantial insight on India’s approach to Pakistan against terrorism.
After a long and enlightening discussion the YPs shared various group activities and games for an hour which really helped all of us in jellying as a group in a informal and enjoyable setup.
